Trans Am Series Weekend!
Professional road racing is coming back to BIR!
The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli, which has a history at BIR that dates back to 1969, will return to BIR this season after a two-year absence for the Jed Copham Memorial Race. The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) will be on the track for two days for club racing as well and we’ll be celebrating First Responders during Saturday’s First Responders Appreciation Day.
The two-day event – July 11-12 – will be packed with great wheel-to-wheel racing on BIR’s 2.5-mile Competition Road Course. The Trans Am Series now features four classes of racing: TA, TA2, SGT and GT, with Mustangs, Corvettes, Camaros and Challengers that fly around the track. Saturday’s schedule includes practice sessions and qualifying, followed by qualifying and the final race on Sunday.
Between the Tran Am sessions, the SCCA will be on the track with practice, qualifying and racing for a number of different classes.
The Trans Am returns to honor Jed Copham, BIR’s beloved owner who died in November 2018 from a boating accident. When the series came through BIR, Jed raced in the TA class against the series’ top drivers. To honor his love of racing and his commitment to road racing, the Trans Am Series is calling the race the Jed Copham Memorial Race.
The First Responders Appreciation Day is a new addition to BIR’s lineup. A host of First Responders from throughout the state will be on hand, along with their fire trucks, ambulances, medical helicopters, etc. to answer questions, meet the public and mug for photos. It’ll be a great opportunity to thank them for their public service.
Single-day tickets expire one hour after the completion of racing. Anyone remaining after ticket expiration will be fined or prosecuted.
** Multi Event Weekend – Don’t forget that your ticket gets you in to see two great races this weekend – the Trans Am Series and the SCCA.
