Brainerd International Raceway will crown its King of the Track July 20.
Selecting royalty at BIR is no easy task, as the best drag racers in the Bracket Drag Racing Series will get paired up to determine who’s the best of the best on the blacktop. It’s part of a race-filled weekend – July 19-21 – with racing on the drag strip and the Central Roadracing Association on the road course. Admission Sunday is only $10.
The Summit King of the Track race is an annual event at BIR and brings out the best in the drivers who are vying for the crown. First, the top two racers in the point standings in each class race against each other to determine who represents that class. And then those winners get paired up in an elimination format, with the King of the Track being the last driver standing. All the classes will be represented except for the three Junior Dragster classes and the Quick 16 class.
The Bracket Drag Racing Series features some of the best drag racers in the Midwest. More than 250 dragsters, cars, trucks, bikes, snowmobiles and Junior Dragsters will be on the track this weekend, gunning for series points and prize money. Friday is a Test & Tune day, while Saturday and Sunday each start with time trials and end with eliminations. Class winners are determined both days.
The drag racing weekend also includes the Mellings Performance Parts Race. The two racers in the Super Pro/Pro ET Shootout will win a Mellings package that includes a $150 gift certificate and a pile of Mellings swag.
On the road course, the CRA brings its high-flying brand of Superbike racing to BIR. Friday’s schedule starts with practice sessions and ends with two rounds of qualifying for the Michelin Cup races. Saturday includes practice sessions and eight-lap sprint races, finishing up with the Jed Copham Memorial Team Challenge, which is scheduled for three hours and features teams of riders. The weekend culminates Sunday with eight-lap sprint races and then two 10-lap Michelin Cup races.
Daily admission is $25 except for Sunday, when admission is $10. Kids 12 and under are free. One ticket gets you in to see both types of racing. Camping is free with the purchase of a multi-day ticket. Parking is also free.
