Those who enjoy high-flying Superbike racing are in for a double dose this weekend at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR).
The Central Roadracing Association (CRA) brings its crazy brand of Superbike racing to BIR for the second of five weekend events this season. But the bike count will be significantly more with the addition of the Championship Cup Series, a Superbike organization from Texas. The end result is the Double Sprints, a three-day bonanza of thrilling Superbike racing for BIR fans.
The two organizations will be using BIR’s historic 3.1-mile Donnybrooke Road Course this weekend, with its famed mile-long straightaway and its super-fast Turn 1. Superbikes run rain or shine.
The weekend starts Friday with practice sessions and two rounds of qualifying for the Michelin Cup. On Saturday, racing starts at 10 a.m. with six-lap sprints and the eight-lap Michelin Cup 1 race. After lunch, six-lap races will continue, followed by the eight-lap Michelin Cup 2 race. Sunday begins with six-lap sprints and ending with the Grand Prix Sprints.
Admission on Sunday is only $10. Daily admission Friday and Saturday is $25; kids 12 and under are free. Parking is free and camping is free with a multi-day ticket.
