The Bracket Drag Racing Series returns to Brainerd International Raceway’s quarter-mile drag strip this weekend and will feature a larger-than-normal Stock/Super Stock class.
The Midwest Class Racers is at BIR for a rare double-race weekend for Stock/Super Stock racers. Sponsored by Barrett Petfood Innovations, Saturday and Sunday’s races have a guaranteed purse of $2,000 for the winner and $1,000 for the runner up. That kind of prize money always draws additional cars for some heavy-hitting drag racing.
The race was initially scheduled for Saturday only, but an earlier race scheduled in May at BIR was rained out, which led to doubling up this weekend.
The Bracket Drag Racing Series will also feature more than 250 dragsters, cars, trucks, motorcycles, snowmobiles and Junior Dragsters, all vying for series points and, in some cases, prize money. Friday is a Test & Tune Day. Saturday and Sunday start with time trials and qualifying and then finish with elimination rounds for all 10 classes. Winners are crowned at the end of both days.
Fans who show up Saturday will also be treated to some motorcycle racing on BIR’s road course. Road Closed Promotions is hosting a Track Day for motorcycles. It’s open to anyone with a bike and desire to ride fast. Pre-registration is required at www.roadclosedracing.com.
Admission on Sunday is only $10, and kids 12 and under are free all weekend. Daily admission Friday and Saturday is $25 for those 13 years old and older. Parking is free and camping is free with a multi-day ticket.
Now in its 51st season, BIR is one of North America’s largest racetracks, featuring a world-class quarter-mile drag strip, two road courses, 300 acres for rustic camping, 164 full-service RV sites and 12 on-site condos. BIR is about 120 miles north of the Twin Cities. For more information, visit www.BrainerdRaceway.com, or call 1-866-444-4455.
