BIR to host NASA Midwest Regional Road Race;
Dual event weekend includes Street Car Showdow Drag Race

BIR's Competition Road Course will be buzzing with activity May 22-23 as the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) brings it's high-flying brand of road racing to the track for the NASA Midwest Regional Race. It's a chance for you to either watch some crazy competitive racing or strap yourself in behind the wheel and compete yourself.

On the track, an exciting brand of wheel-to-wheel racing will feature a wide range of high-performance cars and race cars, including Roadsters, Porsches, BMWs, Mustangs, Camaros and Firebirds. There's even a class for Ford Focuses. Some of these cars will be driven by seasoned racers who will come from across the country to compete for series points. But there's an opportunity for others to compete as well, thanks to NASA's High Performance Driver Education Program.

The HPDE program is a driving school the weekend of the event, where you can learn the fundamentals of high performance driving in a classroom and with on-track instruction. The program is offered the same weekend as the event, so those who are interested in racing that weekend can go to the track early, attend the class and end up on the race track later that day. They aren't timed and they don't compete against other racers, but they can challenge themselves and get experience behind the wheel in a race setting. Contact NASA prior to the event for more information and to register.

Nasa2The program for each race series will basically be the same on Saturday and Sunday. It includes practice, qualifying and racing both days. The track will be a busy place throughout the weekend.

For those who want to sample a different brand of racing, they can check out Outlaw Drag Racing on the drag strip, courtesy of the 2nd Annual Street Car Showdown. It's a Dual Event Weekend, meaning race fans get into BIR for the cost of one ticket and then they can go back and forth between events as often as they want to. One ticket, two great racing events. Daily admission at the gate is $20 for adults, $10 for kids.
