High-Performance sports cars challenge BIR's road course

(May 23, 2010) - BIR's Competition Road Course was buzzing this weekend with the unmistakable sounds of high-performance sports cars from the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) during the NASA Midwest Regional Race. By the end of Sunday, John Boos had posted the fastest lap times during the three Lightning Races, winning the Super Touring 1 Class Saturday by covering the 2.5-mile track in 1:37.309 and a lap speed of 92.489 mph.

Boos was among drivers from throughout the country who came to compete for series points. Fan were treated to some exciting wheel-to-wheel action by Camaros, Corvettes, Mustangs, BMWs, Mazda Miatas, Audi Quattros and more. Racing on the 13-turn, 2.5-mile road course was a timed event, where drivers raced for 30 minutes, and the winners in each class were determined by their fastest lap time.

On Saturday, John Boos was a full 5 seconds faster than any other driver that day and then nearly matched his time twice on Sunday during the two Lightning Races. Boos won the Super Unlimited Class in both races with times of 1:38.712 and 1:38.804, and speeds of 91.174 mph and 91.089 mph, respectively. He was chased around the track by Steven Kolrud in Sunday's races, finishing second to Boos with best-lap times of 1:42.476 and 1:42.483. 

Griswold easily won the American Iron Xtreme Class in both races Sunday with times of 1:42.582 and 1:42.540, well ahead of second place finisher Jeffrey Henderson: 1:52.978 and 1:52.721.

The NASA Midwest Regional Race was part of a Dual Event Weekend at BIR, with NASA on the Competition Road Course and drag racers on the drag strip. It was the 2nd Annual Street Car Showdown, featuring the first leg of the three-race Outlaw Street Car Series. For results from drag racing, click here.
