Jet dragsters to torch BIR’s track during Nationals

Shortly after the final qualifying sessions are complete Friday and Saturday, fans will be treated to something they don’t typically have a chance to see – a pair of jet dragsters flying down the drag strip.

Tony Franco is bringing a pair of 12,000-horsepower “blowtorch on wheels” to BIR this weekend to add more incredible speed to a racing program that’s already expected to break national records again, like last year.

In addition to looking cool as the jet engines lay down a huge trail of fire, the dragster are super fast: about 316 mph in the quarter mile in less than 5 seconds. Not bad.

The experience for the drivers is said to like being shot out of a cannon, or being on the wrong end of a stick of dynamite.

The dragsters take the track about 7:20 p.m. on Friday and 5:20 p.m. on Saturday.
