| December 5, 2007 BRAINERD, Minn. The 5th Annual Bad Boyz Car Show at Brainerd International Raceway will feature championship-style drag racing, with the drivers competing for part of an $8,500 purse. Scheduled for July 11-13, the Bad Boyz Car Show is one of Minnesota's fastest growing car shows. Last year's event included exhibition drag racing on BIR's drag strip by car show participants, who raced on a shortened, eighth-mile track. This year, however, the drag racing will feature the fastest four classes only from BIR's annual Show & Go and Muscle Car Shootout events. Those classes are Pro Outlaw, Outlaw, King Street and Real Street, where cars can reach speeds of up to 200 mph and cover the quarter mile in as fast as 6 seconds. These are the most popular drag racing classes from the Show & Go and Muscle Car Shootout events,² said Tim Berns, BIR drag racing manager. It'll be even more exciting during the Bad Boyz Car Show because there's significant prize money at stake. Each of these classes has grown in recent years to include some of the fastest amateur drag racers in this part of the country. BIR wanted to feature this group of drag racers in a three-race point series next summer, and adding it to the Bad Boyz Car Show's schedule of events was a logical move that was supported by Bad Boyz organizers. Plus, it would offer car show fans another memorable activity that weekend. Still in the final planning stages, the 2008 Bad Boyz Car Show is open to cars and trucks built in 1979 or earlier. More than 700 muscle cars, classics, customs and street rods will be featured during the event. Activities will include a car show, a swap meet and a host of other family activities. More information on this event, including the drag racing payout schedule and BIR's 2008 schedule, can be viewed on the BIR Web site at www.BrainerdRaceway.com. Now in its 40th season, Brainerd International Raceway is one of North America's largest racetracks, featuring a world-class quarter-mile drag strip, a three-mile, 10-turn road course, 350 acres for rustic camping, 164 full-service RV sites and 12 on-site condos. BIR is about 120 miles north of the Twin Cities. |
