NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Contestants in the Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car and NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series categories (Super Street is Division only) compete for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series championship title on the basis of total points won at NHRA National and Divisional events. Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car titles are based upon points total of ten races (five National and five Divisional), while the remaining NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series titles are based upon eight races (three National and five Divisional).

Divisional Events: Races featuring Top Alcohol Funny Car/Dragster and NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series points competition within NHRA's seven geographic divisions. Divisional race dates and locations are determined by NHRA in cooperation with host tracks, and are announced upon finalization in National DRAGSTER, drag racing's leading newsweekly, and other publications, such as NHRA Divisional bulletins and Newsletters.

Each Top Alcohol Funny Car and Top Alcohol Dragster driver is eligible to compete for points at eight National and eight Divisional events. When a driver has competed in those eight Divisional and eight National events, or the season ends at the Automobile Club of Southern California Finals, their best five Divisional and best five National finishes will constitute the driver's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series points total.

Each driver in the remaining NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series categories is eligible to compete for points at eight Divisional and six National events. When a driver has competed in those eight Divisional and six National events, or the season ends at the Automobile Club of Southern California Finals, their best five Divisional and best three National finishes will constitute the driver's NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Championship points total.

Once a driver has competed for points at a maximum number of National and/or Divisional events, the driver may compete at additional events, but will not receive additional NHRA Top Alcohol points.

NHRA LUCAS OIL DRAG RACING SERIES DIVISIONAL

To accommodate those Top Alcohol Funny Car/Dragster and Top Alcohol Drag Racing Series racers who elect to concentrate activity closer to their home, separate Divisional programs are conducted to honor the top points champions in each of NHRA's seven geographic Divisions. Standings for this series are based totally upon NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Divisional events (National events do not apply). At the time a driver enters a Divisional event for the first time of the season, it is required that said driver declare which of the seven NHRA Divisions is to be his home Division. That Division will become his home Division for the season. Contestants are not permitted to be listed in more than one Division in the same category. Drivers in all Top Alcohol Funny Car/Dragster and NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series categories may compete for home division NHRA Top Alcohol points at up to eight Divisional events and will be credited with the points earned at their best five finishes including up to two "out of division" races. It is allowable to earn points at outside events even after a driver's home divisional schedule is completed. To be eligible for official NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series points and subsequent post-season awards, it is mandatory that a contestant participate at a minimum of three races within their home Division.
