The 31st Annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals - NOTHING compares!

worshamYou've heard stories about Brainerd International Raceway during the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals but you HAVE to experience it yourself. There's NOTHING that compares.

The 31st Annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals is scheduled for August 16-19, when BIR celebrates drag racing like no place else on earth. We bring in the world's best drivers, the world's fastest race cars and a legion of crazy race fans for four days of ground-pounding, lightning-fast, blow-your-mind drag racing.

If you’ve never been to an NHRA Nationals race at BIR, we guarantee that you’ve never seen anything like it, and you’ll be back again. For sure.

The best drag racers in the world compete at the NHRA Nationals on BIR’s world-renown track, which is the fastest in the country. Names like John Force, Tony Schumacher, Larry Dixon, Ron Capps, Antron Brown, Brandon Bernstein, Cruz and Tony Pedregon and Minnesotans Greg Anderson, Jason Line, Warren Johnson and Kurt Johnson will be pushing themselves and their cars to the limits as they compete for a world championship.

This kind of racing isn’t for the faint of heart. The Top Fuel Dragsters get down the track in under 4 seconds at over 300 mph. They crank out about 8,000 horsepower along the way. Blink at the wrong time and they’re long gone. YOU'VE GOT TO FEEL IT TO BELIEVE IT!

cappsThere’s just as much to see off the track. Every ticket comes with a pit pass, so fans are encouraged to watch the teams tear down their race cars and put them back together. You can stand within several feet of the crews as they crank up the car, sending the smell and burn of nitro fuel into the crowd. You can't get that anywhere else. And bring a pen and paper because drivers are readily available for autographs and questions.

On the Midway, manufacturers and sponsors create a carnival atmosphere, with interactive displays, simulated competitions, merchandise, and freebies.

But what makes BIR unique among other tracks is its on-site camping and The Zoo campground, which has a reputation among drivers, teams and fans alike for being the place to be at the end of the racing day. With live music Thursday through Saturday nights in a centrally located bandshell, fireworks, 24-hour food and a great atmosphere, our campground is the only place to stay to really experience the NHRA Nationals at BIR. Nobody parties harder than the gang in The Zoo. Rickshaw racing, deejays, bonfires - it’s all good clean fun. The parade of the Partywagons can be worth the price of admission alone.

For those with small children or who want quieter evenings, the reserved and family camping area is for you. Early noise and traffic restrictions are strictly enforced to give families a break from the all-night celebrations that go on in The Zoo.
