Muscle Car Shootout to cap off Outlaw Street Car Series; SCCA Trans-Am Series to challenge road course Outlaw drag racing fans: Mark your calendar for Labor Day weekend this summer. Sept. 3-5 are the dates for the 22nd Annual Coca-Cola Muscle Car Shootout, which will be the third and final leg of the Outlaw Street Car Series at Brainerd International Raceway.
The Muscle Car Shootout is a weekend full of exciting drag racing and other entertaining activities. It's the ultimate way to finish off the summer and the last chance for Outlaw Street Car Series racers to compete for series points and a track championship in the "fast five" classes: Pro Outlaw, Outlaw, King Street, Real Street Unlimited and Real Street Natural. More than 400 cars are expected to compete. There are also eight Index Classes and a number of Sportsman classes. Off the track, spectators are treated to a classic car show featuring some real beauties that are judged in one of 28 different classes. Fans can vote for their favorite as well. The event also includes live music, on-site camping and fun and games for kids of all ages.
With the Muscle Car Shootout providing entertainment on the drag strip, thrilling sports cars will be on BIR's Competition Road Course during the SCCA Trans-Am Series. A single event ticket gets you into both events, at no extra cost. And for those who may be concerned with the weather (rain will delay drag racing), the Tran-Am Series will go on rain or shine. The Outlaw Street Car Series, Pro Outlaw and the Outlaw classes provide incredible heads-up racing. Last year, the quickest time and fastest speed went to Brian Carpentor, who was racing an '03 Mustang Cobra in the Pro Outlaw Class. He posted a 6.868-second quarter mile and a speed of 212.49 mph. Mike Bauerly wasn't far behind him when he won the Outlaw Class with a time of 7.163 seconds and a speed of 191.16 mph. For the full results of last year's event, click here. King Street, Real Street Unlimited and Real Street Natural classes are all for street-legal cars. A popular segment of the Muscle Car Shootout program are the parade laps around BIR's road course, which are required of street-legal cars. It serves as proof that those cars can operate in normal driving conditions. As the parade passes through the pit area, fans line up along the track to cheer them on. The street-legal portion of the Muscle Car Shootout continues to grow. It's an opportunity for anyone with a street-legal car to compete in the drag racing portion of the event. There are a number of classes that you can enter, including the eight Index Classes. Contact BIR for more information. Qualifying is Friday and Saturday, and eliminations are Sunday. Racing starts at 9 a.m. daily. Click here for information or to buy tickets for the Muscle Car Shootout |
