2010 drag racing schedule features full lineup of events
Brainerd International Raceway’s 2010 drag racing schedule features a mix of old fan favorites and some new events that have quickly become very popular with fans and drivers alike.
The first year of the three-race Outlaw Drag Racing Series was a very successful last season at BIR. The "fast five" classes continue to draw great crowds and entertain fans with their incredible horsepower and speeds. This year, BIR renamed the series to the Outlaw Street Car Series for more emphasis on the three street legal classes. But it's the same great racing nonetheless. The Outlaw Street Car Series will be featured during the same three events this year: Show & Go, Coca-Cola Muscle Car Shootout and the Index Class Eliminator, which has also been renamed to the Street Car Showdown. The Pro Outlaw and Outlaw cars can top 200 mph in the quarter mile and get down the track in 6-7 seconds. The drag racing schedule is anchored by the 29th Annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals. The best and fastest drivers in the world will descend on BIR Aug. 12-15 to slug it out for valuable Full Throttle Drag Racing Series points. Thunder at the Lakes NHRA Divisional Drag Race (formerly the NHRA Division 5 Points Race) is a tune-up to the NHRA Nationals event. It features Top Alcohol Dragsters and Funny Cars, as well as Sportsman classes. BIR’s Bracket Drag Racing Series highlights amateur drag racers who will have seven weekends to battle for series points, prize money and possibly a track championship at the end of the season. The Wednesday Night Drags – Street Legal Style program will have many dates on the calendar again this year. Starting at 5 p.m., and going until dusk, the Wednesday program is for anyone who wants to run their street-legal car, pickup or motorcycle down the drag strip, using the light tree, burn-out box and scoreboard.
