All Bike Weekend offered crazy brand of two-wheel racing(July 18, 2010) - The names of the riders parading through BIR's winners circle may have sounded familiar, but the drag racing action last weekend couldn't have been more different then a typical weekend at the races. It was the All Bike Weekend, featuring All Bike Drag Racing and Superbike racing, courtesy of the Central Roadracing Association. Drag bikes flew down the drag strip all weekend while Superbikes competed on BIR's 2.5-mile, 13-turn Competition Road Course. Even when the skies opened up on Saturday and poured rain, bikes were still battling on the road course. On the drag strip, Michael Pangerl had his 2006 Suzuki Hayabusa dialed in, as he consistently made the fastest runs of the weekend with speeds nearing 175 mph and sub-9-second times. But at the end of the weekend, Pangerl didn't find the winners circle. He lost in the semifinals of the Trophy Class and the quarterfinals of the No Box Bike/Sled Class. Mike Voss may have wondered if he was ever going to find the winners circle as well. Entered in three classes, Voss ended the weekend with two runners-up finishes and a championship in the Trophy Class. Voss and Glenn Van Zee, both of whom race bikes in BIR's Bracket Drag Racing Series, squared off in the finals of the No Box Bike/Sled Class. Van Zee nearly had a perfect reaction time at the starting line. His reaction time was .001 seconds (.000 is perfect) and he never looked back as he posted a time of 9.040 seconds and 144.72 mph. Voss earned his way to the finals in the Box Pro Bike/Sled Class as well, where he faced off with Toby Giese. Despite posting a reaction time of .002 seconds in the finals, Voss fell to Giese, who was slower off the starting line but caught Voss at the finish line with a time of 9.118 seconds and 134.67 mph. Voss finally outlasted the 14-bike field in the Trophy Class, where he beat Dale Anderson in the finals. Voss finished with a time of 11.907 seconds and 90.44 mph. Jeff Arpin came down from Winnipeg, Manitoba with his 1990 Suzuki Katana and won the Pro Tree Bike Class. He barely beat Jason Clampitt in the finals, ripping off a 140.88 mph pass with a time of 8.622. Click here for results of the All Bike Drag Race and the CRA's Roadracing Weekend. |
