Outlaw drag series returns to BIR

Outlaw Street Car Series returns to BIR

The three-race Outlaw Street Car Series returns to BIR this summer after a successful inaugural season last year. The series features the "fast five" classes - Pro Outlaw, Outlaw, King Street, Real Street Unlimited and Real Street Natural - as well as eight Index Classes and more.

MahnkeBut it's the fast five classes that are the main event. These cars have serious horsepower that bring the front end right off the ground at launch. And they can move down the drag strip as well - the two Outlaw classes can break 7 seconds with speeds over 200 mph. In all, it's great drag racing with a group of racers who put on an excellent show.

The series begins May 21-13 with the 2nd Annual Street Car Showdown, followed by the NAPA Auto Parts Show & Go July 2-4 and ending with the Coca-Cola Muscle Car Shootout Sept. 3-5.

Drivers compete for prize money and valuable points that will ultimately lead to a track champion in each class. Last year, Brent Rau of St. Francis took home the track championship in the Pro Outlaw class, driving his 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Brian Barthel of Big Lake drove his 1955 Chevy to a championship in the Outlaw class, while Michael Sterling of Oak Grove, Aaron Van Heel of Otsego and Jason Hartkopf of Eden Valley won championships King Street, Real Street Unlimited and Real Street Natural, respectively.
