Chassis certifications, ETIs available at GSTA Car Show Saturday

(March 23, 2010) - On Saturday, drag racers have the chance to get their chassis certified by National Hot Rod Association Division 5 Chassis Inspector Jim Bongard. Jim will be setup outside the Gopher State Timing Association’s Rod & Custom Spectacular at the State Fair Coliseum in St. Paul.

Drag racers can also receive an NHRA Extended Tech Inspection (ETI) for their cars by the Tech Crew from Brainerd International Raceway who will also be outside the GSTA show on Saturday.

There’s no charge to get into the fairgrounds Saturday. The ETI is free and the standard NHRA Chassis Inspection fees apply. If Jim can certify 10 or more chassis on Saturday he can offer a discount. Please call him at 952-457-1856 to schedule your inspection.

Chassis certification is required on any vehicle running under 10.00 seconds in the quarter mile. Racers who can’t make it Saturday for the chassis certification will have another opportunity May 8-9 during BIR’s first Bracket Drag Racing Series race. Division 5 Chassis Inspector Tim Toso will be at BIR that weekend to inspect and certify drag race roll cages and to answer chassis-related questions.  

Tech inspections are required for all cars before they hit the track for the season. Basic inspections are done before every race, but an Extended Tech Inspection is good at all NHRA tracks for the entire 2010 season. With an ETI, BIR racers can use the “Quick Tech” lane to get to the track sooner. Part of the inspection includes the racer’s safety gear, such as helmet, jacket and other safety items, so bring them with for the ETI Inspection on Saturday.

The GSTA Rod & Custom Spectacular is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. SAturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults and $6 for kids.
