Outlaw series: New name, same great drag racing(November 23, 2009) - The inaugural year of Brainerd International Raceway's Outlaw Drag Racing Series was a big success and will be featured again in 2010 but under a new name: the Outlaw Street Car Series. The series will still feature the "fast five" classes: Pro Outlaw, Outlaw, King Street, Real Street Unlimited and Real Street Natural. The only difference is that the three "street legal" classes are now sharing top billing with the two outlaw classes. That change was made to give more emphasis on the street legal classes, which feature cars that would be legal on the street and have to prove it during each of the three events by driving laps around BIR's road course, shutting down the engine and then starting it up again. If the cars are able to do that without breaking down, the drivers are awarded additional points. The Pro Outlaw and Outlaw cars are typically not street legal and aren't required to drive any laps. The Outlaw Street Car Series will be featured during the same events as last year: the Street Car Showdown (renamed from Index Class Eliminator) on May 21-23, the Show & Go on July 2-4, and the Coca-Cola Muscle Car Shootout on Sept. 3-5. Those races also include more than 12 other classes as well.
